Wow, that was weird. Must be more careful.
Am full of cold at the moment, well, my head is. My left ear popped when I last blew my nose, so I tried to do that hold-nose-and-blow thing (like divers pre-dive or flying travellers do to equalise pressure) to try and pop the other one.
That didn't work, instead just adding pressure to my left one and wheeeeee the monitor in front of me started peeling away to the right! Instant-dizzy! God!
Luckily it righted itself within a few seconds but I was worried for a minute, didn't want to end up with Labyrinthitis.
So be careful, folks. That really wasn't very nice...

So, I woke up with a drip this morning...
...no, no, I mean, the kind that comes through the ceiling and leaves a wet patch.
No! No-no-no, I mean, the wet kind.
Uh, you know, the stuff that makes a rhythmic plopping sound.
Oh come on - it makes you look at the ceiling in confusion!
Umm.
This isn't getting any better, is it?
So apparently there were about 20 tiles blown loose, meaning whoever last did the roof did rather a shoddy cowboyesque job of it. No wonder I woke up to a sudden large brown patch in the ceiling and a splp-splp-splp noise across the room. We have a temporary fix, but it seems like the whole thing ought to be re-done. Whoop, glad I don't own the house! Not my problem (until it starts dripping on my stuff)!
(In case anyone is still wondering, the only drip I woke up with was a watery one - otherwise the one I occasionally wake up with is decidedly non-drippy and rather nice thank-you-very-much!)

New xkcd - very intrigued...

This appears to be a little US-Centric but I love the idea of going somewhere entirely random and finding others who have done the same in the name of geekery (you can scroll around the map to find the UK or wherever else). If I had decided to have a go this weekend, I'd be at my mothers and sadly the co-ords of the last few days seem to end up somewhere in the English Channel.
However, there's always next weekend and I'll be back in the Bristol area... If I remember, I'll see whoever else is feeling adventurous at 4pm Saturday 31st May, as long as the destination isn't in the Severn Estuary somewhere!

East Somerset Railway
Well, it looks like I now have a nice outlet for my creativity - an excuse to actually buy and use art supplies, a bit of inspiration for nice drawings, hurrah!
The place is almost completely volunteer-run by steam train enthusiasts and other altruistic souls, and is actually rather an impressive operation. It not only caters for people who want a nice day out, it also has a youth group ("Gangers") as well as courses for people who want to be qualified as driver or fireman, not to mention plenty of jobs to do for those who simply want to help out.
A chap at work needed someone to help with illustrations for the new site guide, as well as maybe the journal and a few other things - my first little job was to produce a picture to show the new playground they plan to raise money for.

Hurrah, as said, an outlet - also the beginnings of a portfolio for me! It would be very nice to officially say I am an "illustrator" as a sideline :)
I mustn't talk about this without also mentioning that every little helps! In order to build that playground, they need £13,000 (ouch)! So please visit if you fancy a day out with lots of heavy machinery (phwoar), and dig deep for those spare pennies in your pockets!
The East Somerset Railway (ESR) is an ex-Great Western Railway branchline running through the Mendip hills near Shepton Mallet, Somerset, UK. Steam trains run all year, with a 5-mile round trip through the rolling countryside.

You Know You're Short When:
Those trousers from the charity shop that fit you so perfectly in both length and breadth say "LONG" on the label.
So they're pedal-pushers, for someone tall.
Sigh.
